The tables have turned: FARO adds an 8th axis to 3D scanning

tables-have-turned

Until now, 3D scanning has been limited to seven degrees of freedom. This describes the freedom of motion of an articulating measurement arm, like the FARO® Design ScanArm, that attaches to the scanner or probe.

With FARO’s latest revolution to the ScanArm, the 8-Axis, 3D scanning now has eight degrees of freedom.

The 8-Axis is a separate, yet integrated rotational axis that provides a natural extension of the ScanArm capability, attaching to the ScanArm via cable results in a seamless high-accuracy part rotation axis.

Dive into the details of how the 8-Axis works in this whitepaper from Engineering.com.
