What's new with BuildIT Metrology 2019.5

We are proud to introduce FARO® BuildIT Metrology 2019.5, the latest update to BuildIT's flagship software - elevating the standard for workflow optimization and productivity for alignment, inspection and build applications. 

Here are a few of the new features included in this release.

 

ANALYSIS

CROSS-SECTION ANALYSIS

A new analysis command has been added to streamline analyses of surface deviations along specific cross-sections of the CAD model. The command computes the corrected deviations along a scanned slice of the model, generating dedicated views for reporting and a clear graphical representation of the deviations between the measurements and CAD.

BuildIT Metrology Repeat Part Measurement (RPM)INTEGRATION OF FARO REPEAT PART MANAGEMENT

BuildIT now supports Statistical Process Control (SPC) analysis with the integration of support for FARO’s Repeat Part Management (RPM) feature. A model can be opened from RPM, the part inspected, and the inspection results uploaded back to RPM to log and track the inspection history and statistics.

BuildIT Metrology - Import PMI from STEPIMPORT PMI FROM STEP

The STEP AP242 standard supports the translation of model-based definitions to a neutral file format along with the CAD model. BuildIT can now import and interpret these model-based definitions from STEP AP242.

Available with the core BuildIT Metrology license for a limited time.

 

USER EXPERIENCE

ONE-HANDED VIEW MANIPULATION

Basic manipulation of the 3D model view can now be accomplished using only the mouse. Left-click for rotation, right-click to pan, middle mouse to zoom, middle mouse to the left or right to rotate the screen and double-click to box select.

  • Allows increased flexibility for the user to work in BuildIT and manipulate measurement devices concurrently.
  • More intuitive for users with backgrounds in other CAD or metrology software.

IMPROVED DISPLAY RENDERING

Two settings have been added to allow for a more realistic and polished viewing experience of 3D models.

  • Ambient occlusion: Improved shading of surfaces and clouds to better visualize the shape of displayed geometry.
  • High-relief cloud rendering: High contrast mode to highlight all of the details in the cloud.

BUILDIT METROLOGY REMOTE CONTROL (BETA)

Basic inspection and measurement workflows can now be controlled via a web browser on a mobile device with a new BuildIT Metrology remote control interface. Use the application to open measurement and inspection commands, select geometry for inspection, and trigger and accept measurements while working away from the computer running BuildIT.

REPORTING

AUTOMATICALLY TRIM SCREENSHOTS

Saved views added to PDF reports are now automatically trimmed. This allows for cleaner, more consistent reporting by minimizing empty background space and maximizing visibility.

BARCODE SUPPORT IN REPORTS

Barcodes can now be added to BuildIT PDF reports within the Job Information, Comments, Footer, and Text Annotations. This improves the accuracy and consistency of user reports which must reference additional documentation or part/job information.

 

PROJECTION

IMPROVED PROJECTOR ALIGNMENT

Aligning a Tracer with a model or scan data is now more streamlined. Users can add alignment points within the projection alignment command from CAD or from imported reference targets. Also, users can override detected corners reducing the need to remeasure. With these improvements, projector alignment is easier, faster, and more accurate, allowing for correct positioning of components the first time.

DETAILED LAYER INSTRUCTIONS

The Instructions field for each layer accepts both text and image inputs. These are both displayed in the 3D view when the user projects the layer.

LAYER NOTES

At any point in a projection plan, an operator can add a note via the Add Note To Layer command. The note appears in the layer properties and will also be shown in the report.

The projection planner can also request a note from the operator at specific points in the projection plan by adding a "Note Request".
