The 35th Annual Coordinate Metrology Society Conference (CMSC), the world's premier event for Measurement Technology Professionals,  was held in Orlando, FL and hosted a slate of 21 original, expert-authored whitepapers and presentations. FARO® was involved in an exciting series of activities at the show ranging from interactive demos to technical training and presentations.

CMSC Icebreaker

[Mon July 22 | Oceans Foyer] FARO sponsored the Icebreaker on Monday, July 22 at the Oceans Foyer, where attendees were invited to join us for drinks, hors d'oeuvres and networking opportunities with fellow CMSC members.

Interactive TraceIT Challenge

[Booth # 309 & 408] What do lasers, verification and origami have in common? Attendees could try out our interactive TraceIT Challenge to find out! We let visitors test their skills and experience the value of laser projection in this fun and challenging workflow. Pass or fail, we had a unique giveaway for everyone who even attempted the TraceIT Challenge!

Technical Paper: Creating a New Concept in Performance-Built Sport Catamarans

[Tues July 23 @ 9:00 AM | Oceans 9-12] This session showed how metrology tools and software are being used to maximize the performance of high-speed racing boats to achieve optimized aerodynamics, hydrodynamics for hull design speed, safety and maneuverability. The presenters included Porta Performance Technologies and metrology experts from FARO.

Spotlight on New Technology: Vector E

[Wed July 24 @ 3:00 PM | Education Zone (Oceans 1-8)]  FARO presented the new VectorE Imaging LiDAR Scanner for large-volume applications, a non-contact inspection that uses High-Speed Imaging (HSI) technology. This presentation showed the benefits of fully automated and highly flexible measurement that does not require robots. Not needing robots saves capital costs, maintenance costs and the need for extensive safety measures.

In this session, we showed how the unmatched scanning speed helps reduce cycle times and how large-volume capabilities dramatically increase coverage for more comprehensive quality checks. For in-process inspections, the VectorE can be deployed in-line, near-line or off-line and is ideally suited toward the aerospace, automotive and shipbuilding industries.

[Booth # 309 & 408] In addition to the Interactive TraceIT Challenge, visitors had the chance to interact with our latest 3D measurement technologies:

  • The NEW VectorE Imaging LiDAR Scanner – On preview through our Early Adopter program
  • 8-Axis ScanArm – Reduce scanning time by up to 40% and scan bigger parts without any loss of accuracy
  • The VantageS6 Laser Tracker with 6Probe – Measure areas that are not in direct line of sight, as well as small, hard-to-reach features using a fully-integrated wireless handheld probe
  • The TracerSI Imaging Laser Projector – Perform laser-guided templating and inspect the piece at each step throughout assembly
