CASE STUDY: Step 1 in Chicago Union Station’s $1 Billion Renovation: Document As-Built Conditions
The long-planned renovation of the iconic 92-year-old Chicago Union Station is a signature project for the Windy City. The station, largely underground, covers about nine and a half blocks with extraordinary details and historical materials used through the facility.
This created a critical need for precise, BIM-friendly as-built documentation to guide renovation planning. As a result, Deep Design Studio (DDS) - a laser scanning contractor - leveraged the FARO® Focus Laser Scanner along with Autodesk® Revit® (a widely used architectural design and documentation software) to gather data, model and plan this momentous project.
