What's new with BuildIT Metrology 2020

We are proud to introduce FARO® BuildIT Metrology 2020, the latest release of our flagship software - elevating the standard for workflow optimization and productivity for alignment, inspection and build applications. 

Here are a few of the new features included in this release.

 

ANALYSIS

AUTOMATIC RECOMPUTATION OF ANALYSES 

As soon as measurements are collected on the required elements, the deviation color mapping and GD&T annotations are automatically updated to reflect the actual part under inspection, without any user intervention. In conjunction with the parametric analyses and annotations, this can speed-up your inspections significantly without any custom automation.

PARAMETRIC DEVIATION ANALYSIS & ANNOTATIONS

Define surface deviation and cross-section analyses, as well as surface and point inspection annotations, before inspection using the nominal geometry loaded from CAD, then save them in your base model to be used as template files for repeat inspections.

BuildIT Metrology Repeat Part Measurement (RPM)

THICKNESS & CLEARANCE ANALYSIS

The thickness or clearance analysis finds and compares all measurements to their opposing measurements and creates a color map of the material, or empty space, between them. This analysis is perfect for validating thin-walled parts. Because it doesn't rely on the CAD geometry for computation, it is not affected by positional variations on flexible parts.

ISO GD&T SUPPORT

Added support for the ISO-1101 standards for Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, in addition to the already-supported ASME Y14.5 standard.

 

USER EXPERIENCE

WORKBENCHES

Workbenches allow you to use simplified menus and toolbars, adapted to each part of your workflow and quickly toggle between them. For experienced users, the default workbench still contains the full menus and toolbars you are familiar with.

REGIONAL SETTINGS

Numbers throughout the software are now shown using your computer's regional settings. The grouping digit (thousands separator), grouping format, and the decimal symbol from the regional settings will be used by BuildIT.

BuildIT is available in Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish.

IMPROVED DISPLAY RENDERING

Manipulating the 3D view with large clouds is now much faster, shows more points on the screen as you move and fills in the remaining points much faster when you stop moving.

 

MEASURING

DOCKED MEASUREMENT CONTROLS

While the floating Measure Control window provided great visual feedback for ongoing measurement operations for operators standing at a distance from the computer, its large size wasn't an asset for users sitting at the desk. We have now introduced a new variant of the Measure Control that can be docked, keeping the model view and any other crucial information fully accessible.

Both Measure Control windows remain available. Simply choose the option that best matches your measurement style.

BUILDIT METROLOGY REMOTE CONTROL

Basic inspection and measurement workflows can now be controlled via a web browser on a mobile device with a new BuildIT Metrology remote control interface. Use the application to open measurement and inspection commands, select geometry for inspection, and trigger and accept measurements while working away from the computer running BuildIT.

PROJECTION

OPTIMIZED LAYOUT

With a focus on a smoother, more guided alignment workflow, BuildIT Projector can now be used on a tablet. Keeping all features within arm's reach of the operator, providing the convenience of an app without compromising the access to any feature.

SAVE ANIMATED VIEWS BY LAYER

Layers can be associated to a saved view so that they are automatically recalled as the operator goes from layer to layer. These saved views will also be included in the report.

CLIPPING BOX

Users can define a clipping box to limit the projection to what is inside the box.
